KHSSG Friday School Snack Provider Responsibilities

Snacks need to be provided for both teachers and students at each Friday School date throughout the year, in order to be sure everyone has enough energy to get through second hour classes without being distracted by thoughts of lunch. :-) With this in mind, it's probably best to choose snacks that are at least somewhat healthy and filling.

Moms providing snacks will be responsible for setting up, cleaning and overseeing the snack area in the following manner.

Plates, cups, napkins, silverware and drinks (water) will be provided by the group, from our supplies cupboard. Moms providing snacks are entitled to $10 per Friday School that they are supplying snacks to either offset the cost of ingredients to make snacks or to purchase snacks. It is up to the two moms to determine how the money is to be split or if it is to be split, etc. Coordinate between yourselves to decide how you'd like to handle everything.

Because snack time is brief, all preparation for snacks needs to be completely finished before students are finished with PE. It is a good idea to begin setup at least 15 minutes in advance.

During snack time, students should line up quietly, single file, outside of the window that opens from the kitchen into the lunch area. Moms providing snacks will serve the students and then students will sit quietly in the lunch area and finish their snacks. There is to be no running and playing. We only have a very brief snack time and can't afford to waste any of it.

Snacks for moms, especially if different than student snacks, can be set up in the kitchen so that moms can self-serve, if desired.

After snacks are eaten, students should head quietly to the restrooms to wash up and then proceed to their next class, without delay. Students shouldn't be in the kitchen during snack time.

Moms providing snacks should keep an eye on students to be sure they get to where they're going and follow the rules; however, all available moms should be helping to be sure all students get their snacks, get cleaned up and get to their next class on time. It's a big job for only two moms.

After snack time, the two moms providing snacks will need to clean up any mess (including dirty dishes) left in the kitchen, put supplies away neatly in the cupboards and clean the lunch tables in preparation for lunch.

Note: Parents of students who are very picky eaters or who have special dietary concerns should bring their own snacks to Friday School.
